Before you invite suppliers to demonstrate an ERP system

Advice & guides · System selection

A demonstration is more useful when it answers questions about your business. Give suppliers something specific to work through.

Choose a few important processes

Identify the work the new system must handle. Include an ordinary transaction and an awkward exception, such as a partial delivery or a change to an order.

Give each supplier the same brief

Use the same scenarios so your team can compare the answers. Make clear which capabilities are essential and ask suppliers to identify configuration, customisation and third-party products.

Involve the people who do the work

Ask them to assess the steps they would follow, the information available and the handling of exceptions. Agree how observations will be recorded before the session.

Keep track of unanswered questions

Record what was demonstrated, what was described and what still needs evidence. Follow up on integration, data migration and implementation assumptions before a final decision.
